About Us

After the death of his father in 2005 Geoff Mohr started the GK Mohr Boerdery. They started with a few cattle and pigs and the farm grew steadily over the years. The pigs are kept in large open camps and are as free range as possible. They now have a 200 sow piggery and 60 head of cattle on a farm across the road from the stable yard.

Vaderlandsche Rietvlei is a great yard and we cater for all your horses needs. Our yard started out as a spelling farm for race horses in 1990. As our kids were born and started growing up, we were given a pony. The kids enjoyed it so much we got another.

Friends of ours asked if they could stable with us and we agreed. We are now one of South Africa's top yards. We strive to give the best possible care to the horses and because our paddocks are big this normally means a bit of walking for the owners.

Linda, who runs the yard, started way before 1990. At the age of six she started riding and before long she was doing riding work for racehorse trainers. She competed in Cape Hunt races and Ladies races all over South Africa. She is still the youngest girl ever to win a race in South Africa.

Linda & Geoff Mohr

As a teenager she travelled through South Africa, riding in a lot of races and Hurdle-races (kind of like cross country at top speed) and getting to know all the ins and outs of horses and horse care. Her mother was a racehorse-breeder and this is where they got most of their knowledge and applied it to showing and dressage. It took a lot of different ideas to prepare a yearling for a sale. The better they looked, walked and behaved the higher the price you got.

As a farm with pigs, cattle and horses we obviously also have very good compost. In the past we sold most of our compost in bulk to the farmers in the area but when the chicken compost dropped in price the farmers bought less and less from us. Due to this we had to make a plan and in 2009 we started the Evidently Green range where we packaged the compost in bags and sold it to nurseries. We currently sell compost, potting soil and lawn dressing in bulk and bagged.

We also package and sell two types of draining stones. The reddish coloured one is simply called Draining stones and the yellowish one is called Cream crush. We supply these stones in 13mm and 19mm sizes packaged in 15dm and 30dm bags. Our bags are all made from recycled material.
